Dear Parents, November 4,2013
This past month of October has been an exciting one for us. We have prepared the garden boxes for the other classes and . We have filled the boxes with leaf compost and have planted strawberries. We continue to water and monitor the plants as time permits. The fourth and fifth grade classes that I have take turns to go out and water and to make sure they are doing well. We have completed measurement problems in solving how much dirt we received and how much dirt would fill the boxes up. We created a scale drawing of our garden boxes outside. Also in math we have looked at place value, multiples of numbers, and multiplying exponents to the 2nd power. We have worked on division and divisibility rules, patterns, factors. We have worked on multiplication by 3 digits, rounding whole numbers and decimals, and analyzing prime and composite numbers using divisibility rules.
In reading, the fifth grade has finished reading Savvy and is working on finishing up answering questions. We are continuously writing, revising and acting out the different skits on anti bullying that the students in the fifth grade created. while we are also working on our Anti-bullying skits. We will continue to work on these in preparation for our presentation, researching some of the different types of bullying and consequences along with strategies for stopping it. We will have our presentation on Tuesday, the 26th of November at 10:30. Please come. The fourth grade is also working diligently on their skit for the presentation on the 26th of November and we have just finished the book, "The Homework Machine" The children and I really enjoyed reading and discussing the book along with making a lot of personal connections along the way . The fourth and fifth grade students have finished their narrative that they wrote with the theme of their three favorite things.
